What Flu Actually Costs a Business

An employee who catches flu is typically off for five or more working days, and productivity stays reduced after they return. Flu spreads through close contact and shared surfaces, so one case in an office rarely stays one case.
Since April 2026, Statutory Sick Pay is payable from the first day of absence. The three-day waiting period that used to absorb short flu absences is gone, so every case your programme prevents is a payroll cost avoided from day one. Read our guide to the SSP changes.

Can individuals buy a single flu voucher?
Yes. Individuals can buy one voucher for £23 and redeem it at any participating pharmacy, the same way an employee would.
How long are vouchers valid?
For the whole flu season, September to March. We recommend a mid-season reminder to staff so no vouchers go to waste.
Can we track how many vouchers have been used?
Yes. You can see how many vouchers from your code have been redeemed at any time, which tells you your coverage without you collecting individual health records.
